Megeve lies in an impressive ski area with breathtaking panoramas of the Mont Blanc massif. The Evasion Mont Blanc domain has 400km of skiing, which equates to 223 pistes, a happy amalgam of slopes for all levels of skier from those who prefer to take things easy to those who thrive on adrenaline. With sixty mountain restaurants across the ski area, this is a resort that appreciates relaxed ski days incorporating long lunches.

If ski touring tempts you then there are 14 marked ski touring routes, and with fun spaces including snow parks, boardercross and a big airbag, those who prefer freestyle are also well catered for. Skiers with a penchant for the romantic will delight in hushed skiing through snow-covered fir trees, and purists will enjoy carving perfect turns on immaculately groomed pistes. Emmanuel Renaut, chef at Les Flocons de Sel, which has three Michelin stars, was praised by the Michelin guide for his inventive subversion of Alpine cooking that puts sublime local ingredients, such as mountain cheeses, wild herbs, and fish from Lake Geneva, centre stage. Also elevating local produce, La Table d’Alpaga and La Dame de Pic – Le 1920 have both earnt Michelin-stars and are not to be missed on a culinary exploration of Megeve.
